If you have lived in this area for more than five minutes and own a pair of running shoes, you know what this means. Broad Street Run season is back. The countdown is on, the group texts are starting, and everyone suddenly has strong opinions about corral placement and post-run festivities.
The Broad Street Run returns on May 3, and yes, it is still one of the most electric mornings you will ever spend running through Philadelphia. Ten miles. One straight shot. Crowds that somehow get louder every year. Bands, signs, cowbells, and spectators handing out orange slices like trained professionals. There is nothing quite like rolling down Broad Street with thousands of runners around you and realizing you are part of something big.
Here is the important part you need to know right now.
Lottery registration opens February 1 and closes February 13.
If Broad Street is on your spring calendar, put those dates in your phone. Circle them. Write them on your fridge. Tattoo them on your arm if needed. Miss the lottery window and you will be that person in April saying, “I thought I had more time.”
You did not.
One of the best things about Broad Street is how many different runners show up. First timers. Boston qualifiers in disguise. Charity runners. Groups of friends who signed up together and plan to “take it easy” until mile seven. It is a race that welcomes everyone, and the energy reflects that from start to finish.
At The Running Place, we love watching our community prepare for this race. Training plans start popping up on counters. Shoe conversations get more serious. People ask questions like, “Is ten miles far?” and “Are there really no hills?” and “Should I wear the new shoes or the old ones?” We are here for all of it.
If Broad Street is your goal, now is the time to get ahead of things. Lock in your shoes. Dial in your socks. Start thinking about layers. Training feels a lot better when you trust what is on your feet.
And while we are talking about races and traditions, we have a little teaser to share.
The Delco 10 Miler will be back this fall! Registration will be opening in mid-to-late February!
We are still putting the final details together, but yes, it is happening again. Doubling the size, quadrupling the excitement (and the port-o-johns at the start)! After the energy, teamwork, and community support we saw last time, bringing it back was the only option. More information will be coming soon, including dates, registration, and all the good stuff that makes race season fun.
Between Broad Street in the spring and the Delco 10 in the fall, the calendar is shaping up nicely. That gives you goals, motivation, and plenty of reasons to keep showing up for your runs.
As always, stop by the shop if you have questions, need gear, or want to talk strategy. We love being part of your race build-ups, big and small.
See you out there,
Mr. Ken
